Advances in Wetland Status and Trends Monitoring Cumulative Error Comparisons

چکیده
The number of wetlands existing in the United States since colonial settlement has declined rapidly. According to reports by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Tiner, 1984; Tiner et al., 1994; Wilen and Frayer, 1990; Dahl 1990; Dahl et al., 1991) and the National Wildlife Federation (Feierabend and Zelazny, 1987), it is believed that over 200 million acres of wetlands were present in the conterminous United States in the early 1700s. Estimates of wetland area made during the 1950s to 1970s indicate the numbers have dwindled to somewhere between 86 to 99 million acres. Feierabend and Zelazny (1987) reported that wetland losses have totaled an average of 550,000 acres a year from 1954 to 1974. By the mid-1980s, total wetland acreage constituted approximately 5.0 percent of the coextensive U.S. (Dahl et al., 1991).

Selecting the optimum plot size for a California design-based stream and wetland mapping program.
Accurate estimates of the extent and distribution of wetlands and streams are the foundation of wetland monitoring, management, restoration, and regulatory programs. Traditionally, these estimates have relied on comprehensive mapping. However, this approach is prohibitively resource-intensive over large areas, making it both impractical and statistically unreliable. Probabilistic (design-based)...

Phytoplankton is one of the main components of wetlands, which plays a vital role in providing nutrients, oxygen for other organisms, stabilizing nitrogen and carbon dioxide. In the meantime, the current status of Lake Urmia highlights the need to conserve and protect wetlands related to these ecosystems and their living and non-living components. Therefore, this study was conducted to assist i...

متن کاملMonitoring and Prediction of Land Use/Cover Changes in Shadegan International Wetland, Iran
Quantifying land use/land cover changes is essential to monitor and assess the ecological consequences of human disturbances. Ecological condition and water quality of wetlands are highly related to the landscape characteristics, including land use/land cover (LULC) types and their fractions in the upland and the surrounding landscape. The changing characteristics of LULC in Shadegan Internatio...
